Top US counter terrorism functionary resigns over Iran war, prompting Trump to' reverse course'

Introduction

Donald Trump's top counter terrorism functionary has  abnegated over the war in Iran,  prompting the  chairman to" reverse course".

In a letter posted to X, National Counter terrorism Center Director Joe Kent said that Iran posed" no imminent  trouble" to the US and claimed the administration" started this war due to pressure from Israel and its  important American lobby".

The White House dismissed the letter, saying the  chairman had" compelling  substantiation" that Iran was going to attack the US first. A US hate examiner  indicted Kent of" antisemitic  homilies".

With his departure, Kent is the most high- profile figure within the Trump administration to intimately  denounce the US- Israeli attack on Iran.

Trump said Kent was a" nice  Joe", but" weak on security".

In the letter addressed to Trump, Kent  contended that" high- ranking Israeli  officers" and influential US  intelligence's had sowed" misinformation" that led the  chairman to undermine his" America First" platform.

" This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent  trouble to the United States," the letter continued." This was a  taradiddle."

Kent, a long- time supporter of Trump who unsuccessfully ran for Congress  doubly, was nominated by the  chairman beforehand in his administration and  hardly  verified to his post. Egalitarians had criticised Kent's hiring of a member of the far-right Proud Boys as a adviser  to his 2022 election  shot.

In his  evidence  sounds, Kent also refused to back down from claims that civil agents had  brewed the January 2021 hoot at the US Capitol, or that Trump had n't been defeated in the 2020 election.

The Anti-Defamation League( ADL), a US antisemitism examiner, said in a statement that Kent's allegations" business in old- age antisemitic  homilies".

" So it's no surprise that he'd  condemn Israel and the media for pushing the President into war against the Iranian  governance," the ADL said.

The pro-Israel prompting group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee( Aipac), reposed the ADL statement on X. Aipac did n't  incontinently respond to a BBC request for comment.

Internal Divisions Emerge Within Trump Administration

Ilan Golden berg, a  elderly functionary at the liberal-pro-Israel advocacy group J Street, described Kent's letter as"  unattractive stuff that plays on the worst antisemitic  homilies".

Mitch McConnell, the former top Republican in the Senate, posted on X" Isolationists and-anti-Semites have no place in either party, and  clearly do n't earn places of trust in our government."

Kent, 45, is a US special forces and CIA  stager whose  woman, cortege  cryptologic technician Shannon Kent, was killed in a  self-murder bombing in Syria in 2019.

The father- of- two stationed 11 times overseas with the US  service, including with the US Army's special forces in Iraq.

He  latterly came a civil officer at the CIA, before leaving government service following his  woman's death.

Kent cited his military service and his  woman's death in his letter, saying that he" can not support  transferring the coming generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives".

At the National Counter terrorism Center, Kent reported to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and oversaw the analysis and discovery of implicit terrorist  pitfalls from around the globe.

Following Kent's abdication on Tuesday, Gabbard backed Trump's decision to go to war with Iran.

In a statement posted on X, she said that as commander- in- chief, the  chairman was responsible for determining what's and is n't an imminent  trouble.

She noted that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence was responsible for helping to  give the  chairman" with the stylish information available to inform his  opinions".

" After precisely reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist  governance in Iran posed an imminent  trouble and he took action grounded on that conclusion," Gabbard wrote on X.

White House Pushes Back Against Allegations

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Kent's suggestion that" Trump made the decision grounded on the influence of others, indeed foreign countries, is both insulting and laughable".

" As President Trump has  easily and explicitly stated, he'd strong and compelling  substantiation that Iran was going to attack the United States first," she added.

In a brief interview with the New York Times, conservative media judge Tucker Carlson praised Kent, with whom he has close  particular ties.

" Joe is the bold man I know, and he can not be dismissed as a nut," Carlson said." He is leaving a job that gave him access to the loftiest-  position applicable intelligence. The neocons will try to destroy him for that."

" He understands that and did it anyway," he added.

There have been a number of adoptions among  elderly  officers in the Trump administration, including Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement director Margaret Ryan and Kennedy Center head Ric Grenell.

President Trump's alternate term,  still, has seen far less development than his  former  term at the White House between 2017- 21.
